Dr. Emily Mahon

 

 

Dr. Emily Mahon has been a member of the Foundation Board since Fall 2018.  Along with husband Jim Mahon (LU ’61), she is an active member of the LU Alumni Association for more than 15 years. 

 

Dr. Mahon just completed a 14-year stretch as Executive Officer of the Eastern Sociological Society where she was the administrative head of the 3,000+ member professional organization.  She continues to serve as an adjunct professor in Sociology at William Paterson University where she teaches the Research Methods and Data Analysis components of their Masters Program in Applied Sociology.  Most recently she has been asked to perform the same research support role for both the Masters and Doctorate Program in Nursing Practice at the same university.

 

Prior to entering academia, Dr. Mahon completed a 30-year career in the telecommunications industry that culminated as Vice President of Marketing and Strategic Planning for the Caribbean and Latin American Region of Lucent Technologies.  A native of Wilkes-Barre, PA, she received her BA in History from Connecticut College in New London, CT; and, later received an MBA in

International Business and Finance from the Graduate School of Management of Rutgers University. After retirement from Lucent, she earned a MA in History from William Paterson University and most recently a PhD in Sociology from the City University of New York.  Dr. Mahon also serves on the Board of Directors of Saint Paul’s Community Development Corporation in Paterson, NJ.

 

She is married to Dr. James Mahon, Professor Emeritus in Sociology at William Paterson University, and enjoys a family of three children and five grandchildren.
