James Tippin, Esq.
James W. Tippin is the founding partner of his family's law firm, James W. Tippin & Associates. He graduated from UMKC School of Law in 1973 and from Lincoln University with a B.A. in 1964. Tippin serves as the Foundation's Counsel.
James is a member of the American Bar Association; Jackson County Bar Association; and the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association. James proudly served in the United States Army and ended with the final rank of 1st Lieutenant. He has professionally served as a representative to the ABA’s House of Delegates for The Missouri Bar (2005-2008). Mr. Tippin has served on The Missouri Bar’s Fee Dispute Committee; Committee to Review the Code of Ethics and the Mentor Committee.
James is a past-President of the Jackson County Bar and former Vice-Chair of the KCMBA’s Fee Dispute Committee. After many years of service on the UMKC Law Foundation, including as Treasurer, he now enjoys the title of Director Emeritus. Mr. Tippin has received numerous awards including Lifetime Achievement Award—KCMBA (2019); The Missouri Bar’s Purcell Professionalism Award; UMKC School of Law Foundation – Pat Kelly Service Award; UMKC School of Law—Lifetime
Achievement Award; and three KCMBA awards--Dean of the Trial Bar Award (2006); President’s Award for Service (2003); and Congenial Counselor Award (2002).
He has been married to his college sweetheart, Billie, for 56 years and enjoys attending church at Concord Fortress of Hope (where he is a trustee) and spending time with his family especially his new great-granddaughter in Houston, Texas.
